Bayelsa Plunged into Darkness as Vandals Target Two TCN Towers

Two towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, were sabotaged by vandals in the Igbooghene community along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilovolt line, leading to a power blackout in Bayelsa State.

On Thursday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, revealed this in a statement.

The incident occurred on July 29, 2024, causing power supply disruptions to Bayelsa State, impacting TCN’s Yenagoa Sub-station and the Gbarain Power Station.

This resulted in a power outage that has affected Yenagoa metropolis and the entire Bayelsa State.

Engineers led by Engr. Emmanuel Akpa, the General Manager of Transmission in the Port Harcourt Region, along with security personnel from the DSS, have inspected the vandalized towers.

Plans are underway to urgently engage a contractor to rebuild the destroyed towers, according to TCN.

This incident follows a similar occurrence on June 16, 2024, when an individual was apprehended vandalizing tower T238 along the Owerri/Ahoada 132kV double circuit transmission lines.

Another act of vandalism was reported on June 10, 2024, at the Ahoada Transmission Substation.
