During the recent nationwide protest against bad governance, two lawyers, Barristers Omes Ogedegbe and Dafe Avwunufe, were reportedly brutalized by suspected thugs in Delta State at the DSC roundabout in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
Military personnel intervened to prevent the lawyers from facing more severe harm during the incident.
Both lawyers, who belong to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Effurun branch, are currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries at Ekpan General Hospital as a result of the assault they endured.
Five suspected thugs have been apprehended by the police in connection to the attack on the lawyers and are presently held at Ekpan Police Station.
The Vice Chairman of the NBA Effurun branch has confirmed the assault and expressed concerns regarding the thugs’ attempt to be released by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, who they claimed to be acting on behalf of. The Chairman offered to cover the medical expenses of the suspects, but the lawyers resisted this proposal.
According to the Vice Chairman, they seek the support of national leaders to ensure the detained thugs are not released.
