#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protesters Create Bonfire Near Buhari’s Katsina Residence

On Thursday, in Daura, Katsina State, some participants in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest lit a bonfire near the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s residence.

Meanwhile, in various parts of the state, a group of hoodlums disrupted the peaceful protest, resulting in injuries and property damage.

In Katsina, the state capital, demonstrators carrying placards with different messages marched to the Government House to express their grievances.

Prior to the protesters’ arrival at the Government House, reports indicate that some troublemakers took advantage of the situation, engaging in looting and vandalism.

In Daura, the hometown of Buhari, local residents protesting lit bonfires near the ex-President’s residence.

The protesters could be heard chanting in Hausa, expressing their suffering from hunger and making demands.

Efforts to reach the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

Furthermore, according to PUNCH Online, commercial activities in and around Katsina State were brought to a halt due to the protest.

PUNCH Online reported that banks, markets, gas stations, bus terminals, and offices were closed, while the main roads and streets were eerily empty, in contrast to the usual hustle and bustle.

Prior to this, one of the protest leaders, Umar Jibrin, highlighted the group’s objectives, which included urging the government to address hunger, insecurity, and reinstate fuel subsidies.

Jibrin emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to prevent more deaths among Nigerians, particularly in the North, due to hunger and insecurity caused by terrorist activities.

“Many lives are being lost due to hunger and insecurity. We are demonstrating to push the government into action to tackle these critical issues.

“Our call is for the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to reinstate fuel subsidies and address the devaluation of the naira,” he stated.
