Massive Fire Destroys Lagos Plank Market

An early morning fire decimated three shops at the Ladipo Baale Roundabout Plank Market, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, causing millions of naira in damages.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that thankfully there were no casualties.

The blaze, which erupted at midnight, significantly impacted a section of the plank market.

Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu stated that investigations revealed the fire originated from a stack of planks as a result of a power surge, swiftly spreading to adjacent shops.

He mentioned, “Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported. Responders managed to salvage a substantial amount of planks and properties worth millions of naira during the rescue operation.

“Through the combined efforts of responders, the fire was contained swiftly before it could engulf more shops.

“Our Response Team and members of the Plank Market Association engaged in public awareness campaigns on proactive measures to avert such incidents in the future.

“Responders including LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigerian Police Force promptly addressed the emergency.”
