Warning from PFN Secretary: FG urged to prioritize Nigerians

In a stern message, Archbishop-elect Emmah Gospel Isong, the national publicity secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has emphasized the importance of the federal government not underestimating the Nigerian people.

Isong highlighted that Nigerians hold deep care and love for their country, which has led to the toned-down nature of the planned protest against perceived governance failures.

Reflecting on the initial day of the scheduled 10-day protest, Dr. Isong, the founder of Christian Central Chapel International, acknowledged the calls from various stakeholders – including community, religious, and other leaders – urging organizers to reconsider. However, he stressed the significance of both state and federal governments taking proactive steps to address citizens’ welfare concerns.

He emphasized that securing victories like this may involve significant efforts and sacrifices, hence the government must demonstrate attentiveness, heed the voices of the people, and take steps to address their grievances.

Isong observed that while Nigerian youths are not commending the government, they are also not resorting to violence. Nevertheless, he urged the government to focus on generating employment opportunities, enhancing productivity, fostering a conducive business environment, and engaging more with community leaders.

Delving into a proverbial warning, he emphasized the need for the government to be more responsive and people-oriented, stating, “When you speak to the kites, you are also talking to the chicks.”

He further asserted that Nigerian leaders must rouse themselves to alleviate the populace’s hardships, uplift living standards, and address issues such as the high cost of petrol, a significant driver of hyperinflation in the country.

“It is imperative for all tiers of government to be answerable to the Nigerian populace,” he added.

Isong revealed that Cross River bore a heavy brunt during the recent EndSARS protest, with both the citizens and the government still reeling from its aftermath.

He noted that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and PFN are deeply engaged in praying for peace, unity, and divine guidance for the government.
