Osun Hunger Protest Triggers Heavy Security Measures and Deserted Streets

Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, was a ghost town on Thursday morning as the end hunger protest commenced a procession from Freedom Park Area.

Our correspondent observed a deserted state capital with locked up shops, motor parks, and businesses, accompanied by minimal traffic and visible security personnel at various checkpoints throughout the city.

The usual morning commotion around Olaiya, Old Garage, Igbona, and Ayetoro Areas was notably absent, with only a few residents seen congregating in groups and engaging in discussions.

Prior to the march, one of the protest leaders, Alfred Adegoke, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace.

“Our presence here is to signal to Nigerian leaders that we won’t tolerate more hardship. We are hungry and angry, but we must conduct this protest peacefully. Let’s send a strong message that we can organize peacefully. Join us,” Adegoke urged.
