Free Treatment and Food Offered to Abuja Hospital Patients by FCTA

In an effort to enhance healthcare delivery in the region, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has introduced the Medical Palliative Scheme.

Aiming to provide support to patients at Gwarimpa General Hospital, Abuja, this initiative spearheaded by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike offers complimentary medical services, medications, surgeries, food supplies, and more.

FCTA emphasized that the scheme is equipped with a sustainable plan to achieve long-term objectives for the well-being of the population.

Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory for Health Services and Environment, highlighted that every patient visiting the hospital on the particular day will receive free medical examinations, treatments, and surgeries covered by the health insurance scheme.

Addressing the current challenges in Nigeria, Fasawe stated, “The government is fully aware of the tough times we are facing and we are taking necessary steps to address them. Through initiatives like food palliatives, we aim to alleviate immediate challenges while working towards comprehensive solutions.”

Regarding the increase in enrollment in the health insurance scheme, Fasawe reported a rise from 104,000 to 180,000 individuals within the past year in the FCT.

She assured, “Every treatment provided today will be completely free, including not just medications but also diagnostic tests. Patients admitted will also receive prescribed medications without any cost.”

It was clarified that the free medical assistance will not be available daily but patients will be provided with medication for a two-month supply.

Fasawe explained, “By ensuring a two-month supply of medicines, individuals can allocate their resources to other essential needs, promoting a balanced lifestyle. Health goes beyond just the absence of disease, which is why this medical palliative scheme focuses on holistic well-being.”

In order to benefit from these services, individuals are required to register with the FCT Health Insurance Scheme, offering free healthcare coverage for a family of four throughout the year.

Furthermore, the initiative received commendation from Prof. Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, aligning with the goal of enhancing the nation’s health status endorsed by President Bola Tinubu.

Pate praised the FCTA’s efforts and encouraged other states to adopt similar schemes to improve healthcare nationwide.

He emphasized the need to discourage harmful traditional healthcare practices, especially during childbirth, urging for reliance on modern medical interventions.

Expressing gratitude for the support provided by the scheme, beneficiaries like Musa Sani and Ene Abu expressed their appreciation for the medical assistance received, recognizing its significant impact on their health and well-being.
