Explosion in Borno Kills 19 Residents Ahead of Planned Nationwide Protests

Reports indicate that a tragic incident occurred in the Kawuri community of Konduga Local government area in Borno State, resulting in the loss of at least 19 lives due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonation at a local gathering spot.

On Wednesday, a number of residents were also wounded in the blast, which is believed to have been orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents, contributing to the ongoing turmoil in the region.

Recent days have witnessed a series of similar attacks, including the deaths of seven Nigerian soldiers, further intensifying the situation.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Daily Trust, disclosed that the explosion occurred at approximately 8:05 pm at a popular tea joint where locals were socializing, resulting in casualties and numerous injuries.

The source expressed uncertainty about the exact trigger of the blast but indicated suspicions of deliberate planting rather than a suicide attack.

According to the source, 19 individuals were found dead at the scene, with an undisclosed number of civilians requiring medical attention, subsequently transported to a medical facility in Maiduguri for treatment.

Today’s tragic event coincides with the planned nationwide protests addressing the issue of hunger in Nigeria.

Nigerian youths have organized mass demonstrations across all states and the Federal Capital Territory, set to commence today, Thursday.
