Provost Claims Calls for Removal Stem from Personal Interests

Dr. Wahab Azeez, the embattled Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, believes that the individuals advocating for his ouster have ulterior motives driven by personal interests.

In a statement to the News agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday, Azeez stated, “Those instigating the crisis aim to pressure me into resigning, but I am committed to upholding justice.”

NewsNow revealed that a protest at the college escalated into violence on Monday, leading to the arrest of 32 suspects who attacked a Federal Government inspection team.

As a consequence, the Federal Government shut down the institution on Tuesday.

The unrest was initiated by some students and staff members who cited inadequate living and learning conditions on campus as reasons for their protest.

Additionally, aggrieved staff members have demanded the removal of the provost, accusing him of extending his term in office beyond what is permissible.

“The closure of the institution has necessitated the evacuation of students from the campus,” Wahab confirmed.
