Nigeria’s Finance Minister Edun reveals Tinubu’s concerns over August 1 protest

Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, shared that President Bola Ahmed’s main worry ahead of the upcoming August 1, 2024, protest is ensuring the preservation of the progress made by his administration over the last 15 months.

During a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Edun disclosed this information.

He emphasized that the president’s primary goal is to see peaceful protests to maintain Nigeria’s economic recovery momentum.

Edun highlighted that Tinubu comprehends the concerns of Nigerians and is actively seeking enduring solutions.

“He is focused on ensuring that the protests remain peaceful and well-organized, so that the achievements of the past 12 to 15 months are not lost. The progress in the Nigerian economy must not be destabilized, disrupted, or wasted,” he commented.

“I believe that, like many other patriotic Nigerians, the president truly empathizes with the issues being raised, especially the high and restrictive cost of living, which does not bode well for Nigeria at this juncture,” Edun added.

The minister made these statements shortly before the scheduled nationwide protest on August 1.
