Appeal from Governor Hyacinth Alia to the People of Benue State

In a bid to maintain peace and stability in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has urged leaders of youth groups, organized labor, and all residents to refrain from participating in the planned protest against governance issues set for August 1.

Speaking at the IBB Square in Makurdi, the state’s capital, Governor Alia emphasized the constitutional right of citizens to conduct peaceful demonstrations to voice their grievances.

Expressing concerns about potential disruptions during the protest, he cautioned against individuals who might exploit the situation to incite violence.

Referencing previous incidents like the #EndSARS protest and recent unrest in Ukum, he highlighted the negative impact of social protests, citing economic losses and potential loss of lives.

Citing the existing security challenges in certain areas of the state, Governor Alia highlighted the safety risks associated with public demonstrations in Benue.

Moreover, he recognized the difficulties faced by the nation as a whole, commending President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to alleviate the situation.
