Victor Osimhen’s agent refutes rumors of Chelsea loan move

Denying reports of the Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen potentially joining Chelsea on loan with a future purchase option, his agent Roberto Calenda has dismissed these rumors amid talks with the English Premier League giants, as per PUNCH Sports Extra.

Calenda spoke out on the prolonged transfer saga following a recent article by The Athletic. The publication’s Football Correspondent, David Ornstein, suggested that negotiations were ongoing between the two clubs. The speculated deal involved Romelu Lukaku moving permanently to Napoli while Osimhen was believed to be heading to Chelsea on loan with a future buy option.

Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano presented a contrasting update, quoting a visibly irritated Calenda who rejected any such connection.

Calenda was quoted via Romano saying, “I read about ‘fantasy exchanges’ with Victor, as if he was a parcel to be swiftly dispatched. This ‘parcel’ happens to be the top scorer of Napoli’s third Scudetto in history. Let’s show respect and cease spreading false news!”

This week saw Napoli and Chelsea revisiting discussions around a potential player-plus-cash arrangement involving Osimhen and Lukaku, as the Italian side seeks resolutions for the protracted transfer of the 25-year-old.

According to Romano, Napoli is actively exploring options concerning Osimhen, acknowledging his desire to depart. Additionally, the club is interested in acquiring Lukaku and is considering a player swap deal as a possible solution.

Napoli would anticipate a financial settlement alongside Lukaku, given Osimhen’s hefty £110m valuation. It remains uncertain whether Chelsea is open to exploring this proposition.

Meanwhile, reports from Corriere Dello Sport indicate that Arsenal has reignited their interest in Osimhen, viewing the Super Eagles striker as a stronger offensive choice compared to Kai Havertz, according to Mikel Arteta.

However, no formal bid has been made, as the 13-time English Premier League champions can reportedly allocate only €85 million for transfers. Napoli is waiting for a response from Chelsea regarding the proposed Lukaku-Osimhen swap deal.

Recent weeks witnessed intense speculation linking Osimhen with PSG. However, negotiations between Napoli and the French giants fell through due to disagreements over his release clause, hindering EPL clubs from making offers since the commencement of the summer transfer window.
