Recent Attack in Imo State: Man Killed, Sanitation Vehicle Burned

Gunmen struck in Orji, Owerri North LGA, where a young man was killed and an Imo State Government Waste Management Agency vehicle was set ablaze, just a day after a tragic incident in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area that claimed the lives of four policemen and a Point of Sale operator.

According to reports from PUNCH Metro, the gunmen caused panic by firing shots in the air as they made their way towards the Owerri-Enugu Road before carrying out the attack at Nkwo Orji Market.

Upon arrival at Nkwo Orji Market, our correspondent witnessed the vehicle engulfed in flames.

An eyewitness, requesting confidentiality, revealed that the gunmen issued warnings, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing out during the sit-at-home order.

The chaos caused the traders and buyers to flee in fear, abandoning their goods and vehicles for safety.

PUNCH Metro observed a significant decrease in public transport as commuters hesitated to travel through the affected area, fearing for their safety.

Addressing the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, assured, “Police personnel have been deployed to Orji in large numbers. The situation is now under control.

“Those responsible for these violent acts will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
