Education minister expresses sadness over passing of NERDC boss, Prof. Ismail

Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, has shared his condolences on the demise of Prof. Junaidu Ismail, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council.

In a brief statement released via the ministry’s official Twitter handle, @NigEducation, Mamman described the late Junaidu as a luminary in the field of education.

Junaidu passed away in the early hours of Thursday last week in Damaturu, Yobe State, while participating in the Joint Consultative Committee on Education program.

He was born on June 3, 1953, and held qualifications in Linguistics and Language: a PhD from the University of Indiana, USA; a Master’s Degree from the University of York, England; and a Bachelor’s Degree from ABU, Zaria, Nigeria.

As a Professor of Linguistics, he also excelled as an Educator, Educational Administrator, Curriculum Developer, and Educational Policy Facilitator and Designer.

Mamman was quoted as saying, “A brilliant star in Nigeria’s education sector has dimmed. Our hearts go out to his family, NERDC, and the numerous lives he influenced.

“His legacy will serve as a source of inspiration for us.

“Let’s honor his memory by carrying forward his remarkable work in education. Prof. Junaidu’s contributions to Nigeria’s education landscape will leave a lasting impact! Let’s commemorate his life and achievements.”
