Concerns Raised by APC Chieftain Regarding Safety of PWDs

An expression of worry over the safety of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) has been voiced by Tolu Bankole, a member of the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee. This concern arises ahead of the planned nationwide protest.

Bankole, who is responsible for tending to PWDs within the ruling party, conveyed this message via a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday.

The upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest, scheduled to take place from August 1 to 15, has been causing tension and sparking varied reactions among Nigerians.

A significant number of youths have indicated their intention to participate in the protest, triggered by the escalating cost of living and economic challenges in the country.

In his plea, Bakonle urged both the protest organizers and the Federal Government to show restraint and embrace dialogue.

The APC chieftain also urged Nigerian youths to discard the idea of mass protest and take into account the predicament of physically challenged individuals who might become stranded due to the protest.

He emphasized, “There is a considerable risk of these demonstrations being hijacked and escalating into violence. It is crucial that our primary focus remains on engaging in constructive dialogue with governmental representatives across all levels. We must avoid a recurrence of the regrettable violence witnessed during the EndSARS movement.

“Persons with disabilities constitute one of the most vulnerable groups in our society, and any violence or disruption resulting from protests could disproportionately impact them. Therefore, it is essential that we advocate for peaceful forms of communication to ensure their safety and well-being.

“President Bola Tinubu has implemented numerous policies aimed at reinvigorating our economy and enhancing the quality of life for all Nigerians. I urge all stakeholders to direct their efforts towards meaningful discussions and cooperation with the government, rather than risking an escalation into violence. Together, we can strive for positive change while safeguarding the rights and lives of every Nigerian.”
