Google’s Africa Accelerator Programme Reveals 10 Startups

Google has introduced 10 startups for its Africa Accelerator Programme, a virtual program lasting three months aimed at supporting African startups in utilizing technology to address significant challenges on the continent.

The selected startups, hailing from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda, were chosen from almost 1,000 applications, showcasing the extraordinary talent and innovation in Africa’s tech ecosystem.

According to the search engine giant, startups play a crucial role in spurring economic growth and technological advancement in Africa.

Through tailored solutions to local problems, these startups not only create employment opportunities but also enhance the overall quality of life across the continent, Google noted.

Despite the current slowdown in investment flow, known as a “funding winter” in Sub-Saharan Africa, the tech company emphasized the resilience and creativity of African entrepreneurs.

“Since its establishment in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries.

“These startups have cumulatively raised over $263m and generated more than 2,800 direct job opportunities, underscoring the programme’s significant impact on Africa’s tech landscape,” the technology giant affirmed.

This year’s group places a strong focus on artificial intelligence, underscoring the increasing importance of advanced technologies in tackling pressing challenges in Africa.

The Head of Startups Programs for Google in Africa, Folarin Aiyegbusi, commented, “We are excited to welcome the 8th cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme.

“These startups epitomize the future of African innovation, leveraging technology’s power to solve real-world issues and uplift their communities. We are dedicated to supporting these founders by equipping them with the necessary resources and mentorship to thrive and scale their solutions.”
