Governor Adeleke Urges Peaceful Nationwide Protest

Encouraging stakeholders to participate in the upcoming nationwide protests, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the state. This message was conveyed during a meeting with the stakeholders.

The governor’s advice, shared ahead of the scheduled nationwide protests from August 1 to 10, 2024, was highlighted in a statement by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.

Despite acknowledging the protesters’ constitutional right to engage in demonstrations, Governor Adeleke expressed concern over actions that could disrupt the peace and harmony of Osun State and its residents.

Emphasizing the need to prioritize peace during the protests, the Governor stated, “Safeguarding the peace and unity of Osun state should be our main focus. My administration is dedicated to making Osun a role model for other states in Nigeria.”

He further urged the participants to adhere to the law and refrain from any violent activities, assuring that his administration would not tolerate any form of violence during the protests in Osun State.

During the meeting, representatives from civil society organizations, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, and other key officials were present.
