Imo Police Denies Rumoured Attack on Avu Market

Addressing a viral video circulating on social media, the Imo State Police Command has debunked claims of an attack on Avu Market by angry protesters as depicted in the video.

According to ASP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Command, the video in question has been confirmed as fake. He urged the public to ignore it, emphasizing that it was a deliberate attempt by troublemakers to deceive the public.

The video actually captured an incident from 2023 when a fire outbreak occurred at the market, not a recent event as portrayed.

Residents were assured of adequate security measures in place, with the police working in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain safety in Imo State.

ASP Okoye mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has instructed the State Intelligence Department to expedite efforts in identifying the source and propagators of the misinformation.

Furthermore, he advised residents to exercise caution when consuming news content, highlighting the dangers of misinformation to public safety.
