Requirements Set by Delta Police Commissioner for Holding a Protest

As the planned nationwide protest from 1st to 10th August, 2024 approaches, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has laid down certain conditions for the protest to take place in the state.

Organizers of the protest in the state have been urged to provide detailed information regarding their plans for the protest. The required information includes the proposed protest location and routes, expected duration of the protest, names and contact information of protest leaders and organizers, as well as strategies to prevent any attempts of disruption by criminal elements.

Abaniwonda has called for collaboration between the organizers and participants to ensure that the protest unfolds peacefully and is not hijacked by malicious individuals.

Residents have been assured by the CP that the police command will deploy all necessary resources to safeguard them before, during, and after the protest, maintaining law and order in the state.

It was emphasized that all who engage in the protest must uphold the principles of lawful assembly and public gathering, refraining from actions that could incite chaos within the state.

In anticipation of any potential disturbances, a significant police presence has been established across the state. Additionally, undercover officers from the State Intelligence Department have been assigned to monitor the protest activities and identify troublemakers seeking to sow discord.
