Allegations by Bwala of External Involvement in Planned Nationwide Protests

Mr Daniel Bwala, former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, has raised concerns about the role of foreign entities in instigating the upcoming nationwide protests addressing the escalating cost of living.

Speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Bwala suggested that foreign interests might be exploiting Nigeria’s current political instability due to economic challenges.

The planned protests scheduled from August 1-10 have garnered attention amidst the prevailing economic hardships.

Connecting the protests to international politics, Bwala remarked, “I strongly believe that politics plays a significant role in this scenario, extending beyond national boundaries.

“It is a widely accepted fact in Nigeria that the issue of suffering and hardship has been persistent over time, not just a recent development.

“Our country has grappled with challenges relating to unemployment, entrepreneurship, economic stability, and security. Efforts have been made to address these issues and create a better future.”

Expressing dismay, the former PDP campaign spokesperson noted that certain groups were threatening the stability of the government.

He expressed, “The narrative in both mainstream and social media has shifted towards bringing down the government, with calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign.

“Such rhetoric unmistakably indicates a political agenda at play.

“Meetings have been held with the aim of removing the President from office, despite the constitutional provision for a four-year term that may be renewed for another four years. The administration is working diligently to fulfill its commitments to the people of Nigeria.”

Bwala contended that the government’s policies are steering the country towards a more promising future.

He explained, “The latest data suggests a positive transformation is underway.

“Reforms are challenging by nature, not just in Nigeria but globally. Implementing reforms demands collective adjustment. The government’s role in this process includes interventions such as providing food supply, financial support, and enhanced funding for state governors.

“Efforts are also underway to assist the private sector in meeting minimum wage requirements.”

Following a meeting with the President in January 2024, the former PDP member affirmed his commitment to backing the current administration, even indicating a potential switch to the All Progressives Congress.

During his visit to show support for the President, Bwala reiterated his intention to join the ruling party in due course.
