Collaboration Efforts Against Malnutrition and Food Insecurity

In a recent statement, the Forum of Chairpersons of Committees on Nutrition and Food Security in Nigeria has expressed its commitment to working with stakeholders to address issues of malnutrition and food insecurity within the country.

During the official inauguration of the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security in Abuja, Tolulope Ige was appointed as the National Coordinator/Chairman of the forum, emphasizing the importance of a unified legislative approach to tackle nutrition and food security challenges at both national and state levels.

The forum highlighted the necessity of collaboration with stakeholders, policymakers, and representatives from various sectors to effectively combat malnutrition and food insecurity in Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman of the forum, Ige, emphasized the crucial role of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving the forum’s objectives and addressing the threats posed by malnutrition and food insecurity to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Ige stated, “The National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security aims to foster a unified legislative approach to these challenges, ensuring the enactment and implementation of effective laws, policies, and programs at both national and state levels.”

He pledged to collaborate with governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, international bodies, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise in combating malnutrition and ensuring food security.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, represented by Benjamin Kalu, praised the forum’s formation and leadership, highlighting the crucial role of legislative bodies in creating laws that promote nutritional well-being and food security.

Abass urged the forum to work tirelessly towards achieving zero hunger by 2030, emphasizing the importance of their efforts in addressing these critical issues.

Executive members of the forum include Maina Garbu (North-East) – Vice Chairman, Mr. Jude Umennajiego (South-East) – Vice Chairman, Ahmed Ibrahim (North-West) – Vice Chairman, Adesanya Oluseun (South-West) – Vice Chairman, Umukoro Perkins (South-South) – Vice Chairman, and Naalong Daniel (North-Central) – Vice Chairman.

Additional members include Dr. Sulaiman Fana as Secretary, Sale Jibir as Treasurer, Moses Essien as Public Relations Officer, and Onyebuchi Ogbadu as the Financial Secretary.
