Ngume turns down Akpabio’s proposal for Senate committee chairmanship

In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial district, has rejected the position of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism.

Following his removal as the Chief Whip of the Senate, Ndume made this announcement 48 hours later.

The decision to remove Ndume from his position as the Senate Chief Whip stemmed from his criticism of the administration under President Bola Tinubu.

Upon reflecting on the comments that led to his colleagues’ displeasure, Ndume expressed his belief that his actions were not deserving of his dismissal.

He declined the offer to chair the committee due to his perceived lack of experience and exposure required to lead such a critical group.

Ndume mentioned that he was presented with the option to select the committee where he would serve as Vice Chairman, after successfully heading the campaigns that resulted in Godwill Akpabio being elected as Senate President.

Addressing speculations of his potential departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume affirmed his commitment to the party as one of its founding members.

He recalled being among the twenty-two senators who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to establish the APC, at a time when the current national party chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, served as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
