Planned Protest: Religious leaders tasked to preach peace to followers

Religious leaders in Kaduna State have been urged to teach their followers the virtues of peace as enshrined in two major religions in the country for the sustenance of peace.

Speaking at a one-day meeting for senior religious leaders in the state to foster peaceful coexistence on Tuesday, the Country Director of the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, GPFN, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, urged religious leaders to preach against any crisis.

Hayab, who is the immediate former state chairman of CAN, noted that Nigerians have nothing to gain from any crisis, saying that instead, it takes the country backwards in all spheres of life.

At the event organized by GPFN, CAN and the Jama’atu Nasir Islam, JNI, Hayab urged the youths to rethink their planned protest, stressing that steps should be taken to collectively put hands on deck to find lasting solutions to the present challenges facing the country.

He said, “In Kaduna State, we have seen what crises have done to the state. It led to the loss of innocent souls, structures and other valuables that would have taken the state to a higher level. We would have used the money used for rebuilding structures to improve our standards of living.”

Hayab appealed to religious leaders to teach followers the benefits of harmonious relationships, saying it would go a long way to unite and dislocate those with questionable characters.
