Amidst a North Central zonal leadership gathering of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, tempers flared as Dino Melaye, the former PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, engaged in a heated argument with Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State.
Melaye openly accused Ortom of engaging in activities that were detrimental to the party during the 2023 presidential election, ultimately resulting in the PDP’s losses in Benue.
Expressing astonishment at Ortom’s presence at the meeting, Melaye emphasized the former governor’s disloyalty to the party in the past.
This verbal exchange between the two prominent PDP figures escalated quickly during the session.
Notably, during the 2023 election, Ortom aligned himself with the G-5 governors, under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in opposition to the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
While the rest of the group worked towards the victory of President Bola Tinubu, Ortom supported Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
