The electoral hangover in Castilla y Leónthe growing international pressure led by the United States in scenarios such as Cuba and the Strait of Hormuz, and the progress in the investigation of the Adamuz train accident mark the current news. These are the main issues of the day.
The PP reinforces its position and puts pressure on Vox
The third elections promoted by the People’s Party have ended up slowing down the growth of Voxwhich arrived reinforced after doubling representation in Extremadura and Aragón. The result in Castilla y León has been larger than expected, which allows Alberto Núñez Feijóo increase pressure on Santiago Abascal to facilitate the formation of government.
Feijóo accuses Vox of block negotiations due to electoral interest and poses a clear dilemma: pacts with the PP or alignment with the PSOE from the opposition. Meanwhile, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco maintains, with less and less conviction, its intention to govern alone, although it takes as a reference the agreements of 2022, when Vox obtained a vice presidency and three councils.
The leader of Vox, for his part, shows a more content tone after the results. Although it does not close the door to entering autonomous governments, its position reflects a weakening compared to previous expectations.
International tension: Cuba and the Strait of Hormuz
The American president, donald trumphas once again placed Cuba at the center of the spotlight by stating that it would be “an honor” to take the island. His statements coincide with a new national blackout which aggravates the country’s energy crisis.
According to The New York Timesnegotiations between Washington and Havana could imply the departure of the president Diaz-Canelwhile the Cuban deputy prime minister has slipped the possibility of allowing foreign investment by Cuban citizens residing abroad.
In parallel, the United States intensifies pressure on its allies to deploy a mission that guarantees security in the Strait of Hormuz. Countries like China, Japan or South Korea They maintain a cautious position for now, while their insistence is focused especially on NATO’s European partners.
News in the investigation of the Adamuz accident
The Independent Railway Accident Commission analyzes a report Hitachi which points to a possible voltage drop on the track the night before the Adamuz accident, in which 46 people died.
This decrease, although slight, could have caused a fracture in the rail or in the weld, opening a new line of investigation. Now it is about determining whether this failure is compatible with the marks detected on the trains that circulated before the accident.
The process is moving slowly: the court must still validate the independent laboratories proposed for the analysis, and the designation of three experts to prepare their own report.
Furthermore, the reopening of the line AVE to Malagadamaged by landslides after the January storms, is delayed. ADIF has announced that it will not be operational until, at least, last week of Aprillater than initially planned.
