Marta García Aller wonders about Trump’s plan for Cuba: "He talks about the island as if it were ‘Your house, on trial’"

Marta García Aller expresses her doubts about Marco Rubio's visit to Europe: "Reconciliation or manipulation?"

As bombing continues in Iran and oil tankers pile up in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump just said it would be a “great honor” to take Cuba. Like the real estate developer that he has never stopped being, he assures that on the island “they have nothing (…) but they have good land and beautiful landscapes.” Oh, and good weather. He says let’s look at what good views it has. Before, all this was revolution.

Is Trump simply wanting to change the subject, to cover up the growing Iranian fiasco, or is he really planning a military operation in Cuba? Maybe both at the same time. Since he cannot win a war, he aspires to gain an audience. And as more and more people question what the US is doing in Iran, where the closest thing to success has been to exchange the 86-year-old tyrant Ayatollah Khamenei for another 56-year-old Khamenei, it comes out with taking Cuba.

Since he can’t win a war, he aspires to gain an audience

Trump wants to change the subject. Indeed, in Cuba there is nothing. Nor freedom. No light. No food. No transportation. Not a drop of fuel has entered for three or four months, since Trump took control of Venezuela. Since then, he has predicted several times that Cuba is close to collapse. But if there is a people trained in living in the midst of collapse, it is the Cuban people. What plans does Trump have for Cuba? Do you have a plan?

According to The New York Times, Washington demands the departure of President Miguel Díaz-Canel. He has in mind a quick operation, like the Venezuelan one. Trump talks about the island as if it were ‘Your house, on trial.’ He sees potential in it. You have to tear it down and do it again. It doesn’t have anything, but look at the views. He is the commander in chief of a reality show about reforms, but with the world.

Look what’s happening in Iran. Trump planned to reform it in two steps. And after insisting that he is winning the war, he has just asked NATO for help. With rapid interventions you have to be careful. At any moment, you tear down a wall and asbestos appears.

Moral?

Cuba, in suspense and without light,

While the mess continues in the Strait of Hormuz
