The Storyline of The Little Mermaid
Ariel is a mermaid princess and the youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of the merpeople of Atlantica. Despite being forbidden to do so, Ariel is fascinated by the human world due to the tragic death of her mother at the hands of a human. Alongside her friends Flounder and Scuttle, Ariel collects human objects. One day, Ariel misses an important gathering with her sisters, leading to scolding from King Triton. Intrigued by fireworks, Ariel discovers a shipwreck carrying Prince Eric, a prince from a nearby kingdom.
Witnessing Eric’s passion for exploration and helping his people during a storm, Ariel saves him using her enchanting voice before disappearing. Upon awakening, Eric’s adoptive mother prohibits him from sailing. Unaware of Ariel’s heroics, her sisters tease her. King Triton, learning of Ariel’s bravery, confronts her for visiting the surface and destroys her human collection. Ariel encounters Ursula, Triton’s sister, who offers to transform her into a human for three days in exchange for true love’s kiss from Eric to stay human permanently. If she fails, she reverts to a mermaid, and Ursula claims her.
Ariel accepts the deal, losing her tail, underwater breathing ability, and voice, stored in a shell by Ursula. With Flounder and Sebastian’s help, she reaches Eric’s kingdom. Eric, seeking the woman who saved him, meets Ariel but is deterred by her voicelessness. They bond over shared interests in his treasures. As they grow closer, Ursula interferes as Vanessa, enchanting Eric with Ariel’s voice. Unmasked by Scuttle, Ursula’s plan is exposed, and Ariel’s voice is restored.
However, at sunset, Ariel transforms back into a mermaid, and Ursula seizes her, plunging into the ocean. Triton intervenes but realizes the unbreakable deal. Sacrificing himself, Ursula gains control of his trident. Eric arrives at the scene.
