DSS Asserts Emefiele Has Been Indicted To Court

In accordance with an FCT High Court decree on July 13, 2023, ordering the Department of State Services (DSS) to arraign the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in court or release him within seven days, the Service affirms that Emefiele was indicted in court since June 2022.

Nevertheless, the DSS declares that even though Emefiele obtained an injunction from an FCT High Court, the Service apprehended him in June 2023, based on suspected fresh criminal violations/information, one of which serves as the foundation for his present prosecution.

A statement issued by the DSS spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, on Thursday night asserts that the “DSS hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele has been arraigned in court in conformity with the order.

“The public may recall that the Service had, in 2022, applied for a Court Order to detain him in relation to a criminal investigation. Despite procuring a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the Service, however, apprehended him in June, 2023, based on suspected fresh criminal violations/information, one of which serves as the foundation for his present prosecution.

“The Service pledges professionalism, justice, and fairness in handling this matter and indeed the discharge of its duties within the limits of the law.”
