Ensuring Akpabio’s Election: Early Arrival at National Assembly

We arrived at national assembly by 4am to ensure that Akpabio is elected - Senator Opeyemi Bamidele

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Ekiti State, disclosed that most of those supporting Godswill Akabio’s bid for senate presidency arrived at the national assembly as early as 4am to ensure his election.

Bamidele, who served as the Deputy Director General of Akpabio/Barau campaign, emphasized the importance of their punctual arrival at the national assembly to prevent a repeat of the events that transpired during the 8th senate.

In the 8th senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, against the wishes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, arrived on time and eventually secured the presidency, a situation they aimed to prevent.

Akpabio emerged victorious with 63 votes, surpassing the 46 votes obtained by the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

Reflecting on the intense effort, Bamidele expressed, “For the past 48 hours, I have been sleepless in pushing for Senator Godswill Akpabio’s victory as Senate President.”

“We entered the National Assembly Complex at about 4 a.m. to prevent a recurrence of the 2015 events. This victory would not have been possible without the immediate past Senate President’s efforts.”
