Three medical students missing as speedboat carrying 14 of them on a cruise capsizes in Calabar (video)

The mishap that led to the capsizing of a speedboat carrying 14 medical students, resulting in the disappearance of three, occurred at a resort in Calabar, Cross River state on June 24. The students, who were in Calabar for the Nigeria Medical Students Games, were believed to have been on a cruise at the Marina Resort. Despite eleven students being rescued, three are still missing.

Governor Bassey Otu has ordered an investigation into the incident and has expressed concern over the safety standards at the resort. He has called for the swift and diligent efforts of security and rescue agencies, as well as local villagers, in the search for the missing students.

The governor also commended the prompt response and efforts of the Nigerian Navy and local villagers in rescuing 11 of the students. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and vowed to sanction anyone found to have compromised on safety standards.
