Niger govt calls for calm as youths, women protest economic hardship

The call for calm by the government of Niger State comes amid protests by youths and women expressing their grievances over economic challenges in the region.

The Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, urged the protesters to remain composed, emphasizing that the state government acknowledges the financial struggles faced by its citizens and is actively working to alleviate them.

The demonstration in the Minna metropolis centered on the recent removal of fuel subsidies by the federal government, which the protesters blamed for exacerbating their economic hardships. They also criticized the continuous rise in the prices of essential commodities.

Speaking with the media, some of the protesters demanded a reversal of the fuel price hike they believe is the root cause of their difficulties.
