My Incompatibility with LP – Sowore Explains

Omoyele Sowore, a pro-democracy activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has shed light on his reasons for being unable to collaborate with the Labour Party led by Peter Obi.

Sharing a two-minute video on his X handle on Wednesday, Sowore articulated the significant variance in his political beliefs in comparison to those of the LP. He added that the ideologies of the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the ruling All Progressives Congress are closely aligned.

He stated, “I often engage in discussions with the Labour Party members, explaining to them that they bear striking similarities to the PDP and APC. They are very active on social media and would often criticize us.

“On one occasion, they reached out to me, urging me to join them. However, I declined for several reasons.

“Firstly, the Labour Party is essentially a party without actual workers. That’s the reality. It’s akin to a short-term rental, just like Airbnb.

“The Labour Party is not a new entity. The former governor of my state, Ondo (Segun Mimiko), was associated with the Labour Party and left the state worse off than he met it.

“I warned them that after the 2023 election, they would be calling for revolution. Indeed, the day after the February presidential election, ‘Revolution Now’ was trending.

“I questioned why the Labour Party was trending and discovered that they were advocating for revolution because they felt cheated by the system.

“Currently, the primary advocates for revolution are the members of the Labour Party, as they would have taken the same actions as Tinubu.

“If Peter Obi had become the President of Nigeria, he would have removed fuel subsidies as he stated.

“The actions Tinubu is taking now are what Atiku would have done if he became the President. In fact, Atiku swore that he would sell all the refineries to his friends even if it meant Nigerians killing him. But we are different.

“This is precisely why I refuse to work with them; how can you collaborate with individuals who oppose your ideology and at times, your very existence?”

Sowore vied for the presidency in the 2023 elections.

In 2022, he asserted that he played a role in helping Obi secure the presidential candidacy for the LP. He also disclosed that the Labour Party encountered complications during the selection process, with demands arising that Obi should not be presented as the candidate.
