Former Vice President Joe Biden has made a significant comeback in his quest for the Democratic party presidential nomination, capturing victories in Southern states such as North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Minnesota, Arkansas, and Massachusetts. He further secured a win in Virginia during Super Tuesday, propelling him into a strong position in the race for the White House.
The ongoing count of votes also reveals that Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders triumphed in California, Vermont, Utah, and Colorado. Meanwhile, billionaire Mike Bloomberg, who poured substantial personal funds into his campaign, only managed to win the U.S. territory of American Samoa, and is expected to withdraw from the race.
Elizabeth Warren, who lost in her home state of Massachusetts, saw Biden secure at least 28 delegates, surpassing her in her own hometown. Her defeat drew a mocking tweet from Donald Trump, suggesting she should go home and ‘drink a beer’.
Another Super Tuesday is scheduled for March 10, where Missouri, Michigan, Washington, and Mississippi will cast their votes for preferred candidates.
The eventual Democratic nominee will face off against Trump in November to determine the next US President.
