Allegations of Unfairness against the Appeal Court by Mutfwang in Plateau

Plateau State’s Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, expressed discontent with the Court of Appeal’s decision to nullify his election, citing unfair treatment during the process.

While addressing the Supreme Court, Mutfwang highlighted that out of the eight points he submitted to the Court of Appeal to validate his election, only one was considered, alleging that he did not receive a fair hearing.

He further criticized the dismissal of the seven issues he raised by the Court of Appeal, stating that it contradicted the directive of the Supreme Court, which mandates intermediate courts to address all presented issues.

Mutfwang appealed to the Supreme Court to affirm his position as the duly elected governor of Plateau State. His plea was presented in a brief at the Supreme Court by an eight-man team of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, led by Kanu Agabi. He emphasized that “the law is settled that wherever there is a wrong, there must be a remedy.”

The Supreme Court is scheduled to review his brief on Tuesday.

Mutfwang pointed out, “Eight issues were presented to the lower court for determination. Unfortunately, only one issue (of jurisdiction) was addressed, leaving the remaining seven issues untouched.”

The governor urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the judgment of the Court of Appeal, emphasizing that he was not given a fair hearing during the process.
