Certificates of Return Given to 16 Members-elect of Plateau Assembly by INEC

On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented certificates of return to 16 members-elect for the Plateau State House of Assembly.

After the Court of Appeal nullified the election of those declared by INEC, the members-elect were announced as winners of the March 18 elections.

Out of the 16 members-elect, 15 belonged to the All Progressives Congress, APC, while one was a member of the Labour Party, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

Dr Oliver Agundu, Plateau INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, stated that the exercise adhered to the directives of the Appeal Court.

Agundu mentioned that the Appeal Court had instructed the commission to issue certificates of return to the lawmakers as the rightful winners of the elections.

He congratulated the lawmakers-elect for the accomplishment and extended his best wishes as they prepared to serve the state.

Chief Rufus Bature, APC State Chairman, expressed that the Appeal Court victory reinforced the electoral process and enhanced Nigeria’s democracy.

Bature urged the lawmakers to avoid ridiculing other political parties in the state and encouraged them to show generosity in victory.

“The interests of Plateau will always remain the top priority. We are looking at democracy as being about ourselves and not about ourselves.

“My charge to the members is that we should look at Plateau as our starting point in whatever we are going to do,” he said.

Mr Sunday Naah, the Member-elect for Jos North West, acknowledged the high expectations of citizens and pledged to dedicate himself to the development of his constituency and the state at large.

Naah assured his constituents that he would enact quality laws to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Jos North West Constituency.
