Tinubu praises African players including Osimhen and Oshoala for their awards

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his congratulations to Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, for winning the CAF 2023 Men’s Player of the Year award.

Tinubu also celebrated the outstanding achievements of Asisat Oshoala from Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who secured the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of The Year for the sixth time. He also applauded Chiamaka Nnadozie, who received the Woman Goalkeeper of the Year award, and the Super Falcons for being named Women’s National Team of the Year.

The commendation was communicated in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday.

Tinubu praised the players for their exceptional performances on both national and international platforms, hailing them as sources of pride for the nation and a source of inspiration for aspiring footballers across the continent.

He remarked, “Witnessing the exceptional Nigerian ambassadors standing at the top of the podium as the African Footballers of the Year, in both the men’s and women’s categories, on Monday night in Marrakesh, Morocco, has reinforced our belief that with hard work, perseverance, and the assistance of God, everything necessary for the nation’s greatness is within our reach and available to us.”

“I commend Victor and Asisat for not forgetting their roots and humble beginnings in the game they love so much, and for acknowledging the role of indigenous coaches in shaping their careers,” Tinubu added.

“I join all Nigerian fans in hoping that this well-deserved honor will mark the beginning of a continued journey filled with success, triumphs, and the fulfillment of all your footballing dreams,” he stated.
