US Embassy in Lebanon Reports Shots Fired Outside its Premises, No Casualties

According to an embassy spokesperson, shots were fired outside the heavily guarded United States Embassy in Lebanon. However, no casualties were reported. The incident took place on Thursday.

The spokesperson, Jake Nelson, stated, “At 10:37 PM local time (Wednesday), small arms fire was reported in the vicinity of the entrance to the U.S. Embassy.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries, and our facility remains secure. We are maintaining close communication with local law enforcement authorities,” Nelson added.

The U.S. embassy is situated in Awkar, a suburb located north of the capital city, Beirut.

Local media sources have reported that an unidentified gunman carrying a machine gun fired shots at the embassy entrance.

This incident occurred as the U.S. embassy was commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1983 bombing in Beirut. In that attack, a suicide bomber targeted the embassy, resulting in the deaths of 63 individuals, including 52 Lebanese and American employees. (NAN)
