Angela Bejar, Mother of Luis Rubiales, Initiates Hunger Strike and Takes Refuge in a Church

In a dramatic turn of events, Angela Bejar, the mother of Luis Rubiales, has sought sanctuary in a church.

To express her solidarity with her son, she has also embarked on a hunger strike.

According to reports from Spain, Bejar has vowed to remain inside the church until her son’s case is resolved in his favor.

Despite being provisionally suspended by FIFA, the 46-year-old Rubiales has adamantly refused to step down from his position.

His actions have drawn global criticism after he kissed Jenni Hermoso without her consent during the medal presentation at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Despite an emergency assembly being called last Friday, Rubiales stood firm and refused to resign.

However, his mother has now declared a hunger strike until a resolution is reached.

She believes that her son is enduring an “inhumane and brutal witch hunt.”

According to Spanish news agency EFE, pensioner Bejar, along with her sister-in-law, managed to gain access to the Divina Pastora de Motril Church in Granada on Monday morning.

Even after the priest had left, they refused to leave the premises.

Bejar has determined that she will neither eat nor exit the church.
