On Sunday, May 22, Manchester City secured the English Premier League title by defeating Aston Villa 3-2 in a thrilling conclusion to the 2021-22 season.
It marks Manchester City’s fourth Premier League title in five years, as they edged past their closest rivals, Liverpool, who secured a 3-1 victory against Wolves on the same day, leaving City with a narrow one-point advantage.
City found themselves trailing 2-0 after goals from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho. However, Ilkay Gundogan’s header in the 76th minute and Rodri’s strike two minutes later leveled the score at 2-2.
City then sealed the victory as Gundogan capitalized on a superb pass from Kevin De Bruyne to score their third goal in the 81st minute, rendering Liverpool’s comeback against Wolves inconsequential.
Since joining the club six years ago, Pep Guardiola has now secured four Premier League titles, further solidifying his legacy as a successful manager.
