Court dissolves pastor's 13-year marriage over wife's affair with another pastor

The dissolution of a pastor’s marriage was ordered by an Akwa Ibom State High Court in the Eket Local Government Area, after his 36-year-old wife was alleged to have had an affair with another pastor. The case was brought to the court by the 42-year-old husband, who works for an oil company, out of concern for his safety. The presiding judge, Justice Pius Idiong, expressed concern over the increasing frequency of divorce and separation attributed to the actions of some churches and pastors. The judge lamented that a pastor had become an instrument in the breakdown of another pastor’s marriage. The court highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence and the danger it poses to married couples, emphasizing the importance of preserving lives over marital disagreements. The marriage was dissolved, and custody of the couple’s two children was granted to the father, with the condition that the mother would have access to them.
