Gunmen kidnap expatriate, kill driver and soldier in Ondo

The town of Ogbonmo Ijebu-Owo in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State was the scene of a terrifying incident when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted a Lebanese engineer and killed his driver and a soldier who was acting as his security escort. The incident occurred at around 5pm on Wednesday, May 25, near Alafia Hotel along Ikare Road. The expatriate was overseeing the Road Dualization Process in the town when the assailants struck at a construction site, resulting in the tragic loss of life. The masked gunmen, numbering about six, stormed the site and opened fire, causing panic as everyone else fled from the scene. The remains of the driver and the soldier were later discovered at the site, a harrowing sight that has shocked the community.

In response to the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Fumilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are being made to secure the release of the victim. She also appealed to the public for any relevant information that could aid in the investigation. Additionally, the Commander of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye, stated that his team is actively involved in addressing the case.
