Fake revenue collectors nabbed in Lagos

Four individuals have been arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for illegally obtaining money from drivers in Lagos by posing as officials from the now defunct Lagos State Committee on the Removal of Abandoned Vehicles (RAVC).

In a statement from SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, the suspects were identified as Taiwo Falodun, also known as Biggy (48), Adedire Olaniyi (42), Femi Osunkoya (53), and Olalekan Edu (51).

According to the statement, two of the suspects, Adedire and Osunkoya, were captured after seizing a motorist’s vehicle for making a lane change at Alausa.

”The motorist revealed that the suspects took her vehicle to a park in front of Elephant Cement House and demanded a fine of N50,000. She sought assistance from friends, who then contacted the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

The RRS promptly arrived at the scene, arrested the suspects, and initiated preliminary investigations. During the ongoing investigation, their leader, Taiwo Falodun, arrived with a government official, identified as Olalekan Edu, to request the release of the arrested suspects. They were both subsequently arrested as well.

RRS fingerprint records indicated that Taiwo Falodun and Adedire Olaniyi were previously arrested in 2020 for extorting a university professor while pretending to be local government officials on LASU-Igando Road,” the statement read.

Hundeyin mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, instructed the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, to bring charges against the suspects once the investigations are concluded.
