Nicki Minaj’s husband avoids jail in sex offender case, sentenced to probation

Kenneth Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, has been sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender in California in 2020 after pleading guilty.

According to CBS News, 44-year-old Petty received a sentence on Wednesday, July 6, after confessing to the federal charge the previous year.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that during a Los Angeles hearing, Petty was given three years of probation, a year of in-home detention, and a $55,000 fine.

Last June, federal prosecutors initially sought a sentence of over a year in jail for Petty’s failure to register as a sex offender. Apart from probation and home detention, he is also required to pay a $55,000 fine.

“Having previously been convicted of attempted rape, defendant knowingly failed to register as a sex offender upon moving to California,” prosecutors explained.

In August, Petty’s alleged rape victim, Jennifer Hough, filed a lawsuit against him and Minaj, accusing them of attempting to intimidate her into recanting her rape accusation and intentionally inflicting emotional distress. The lawsuit was later dropped by Hough in January, as per documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Petty previously served four years in jail in 1995 after pleading guilty to the attempted rape of Jennifer Hough, who was 16 years old at the time.

In a September 2021 appearance on “The Real,” Jennifer Hough, who was the 16-year-old girl Petty allegedly raped, spoke out about the alleged 1994 incident. Hough claimed that Petty approached her at a bus stop, pulled a knife on her, and led her to a house where the incident took place. She alleged, “He pushed me down on the bed, we wrestled for my clothes.” After escaping and making her way back to school, Hough reported what happened to security, and Petty was arrested that day.
