APC delegates ask court to stop Tinubu from replacing Masari as his running mate

The Federal High Court in Abuja is being approached by two All Progressives Congress chieftains and delegates, Zakari Maigari and Zubainatu Mohammed, to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from replacing Kabiru Masari as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. Tinubu had submitted Masari’s name as a placeholder to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after winning the ruling party’s presidential primary.

The plaintiffs are seeking various reliefs, questioning the legality of replacing Masari and its implications on the joint ticket provision. They pointed out that similar principles apply to the governorship candidate and deputy-governorship candidate joint ticket as well. They also cited a previous case to support their arguments.

If this suit sets a legal precedent, it could impact other political parties with similar arrangements, such as Labour Party, which has Dr. Doyin Okupe as a placeholder.
