Price of Aviation Fuel Soars to N903 per Litre

The Nigerian aviation sector continues to face a seemingly never-ending crisis as the cost of aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, rose to N903 per litre on August 16, up from N880 on August 15.

According to Daily Trust, this surge has resulted in increased pressure on airline ticket prices. Passengers are now paying as much as N200,000 for a return ticket from Lagos to Abuja, while a return trip from Lagos to Kano ranges between N150,000 and N200,000, depending on the booking timing.

For Max Air, a flight from Abuja to Kano is priced between N74,000 and N100,000, whereas it ranges between N74,000 and N80,000 for Air Peace. Additionally, a trip from Abuja to Maiduguri on Max Air costs N90,000, and a Wednesday flight from Lagos to Kaduna on Azman Air is priced at N130,000. Meanwhile, a one-way ticket from Lagos to Abuja now costs N80,000 and can go as high as N150,000 for last-minute travel.

On Air Peace, a return ticket from Abuja to Kano is priced at N140,000 to N160,000, while a one-way ticket is N78,000. A return trip from Abuja to Gombe is set at N150,000, with a one-way ticket at N75,000. A one-way ticket from Abuja to Port Harcourt is N100,000, and the fare for Abuja to Lagos ranges between N75,000 and N100,000.

For a Wednesday flight from Lagos to Enugu with Air Peace, the cost for a one-way ticket is N150,000.

Although the fuel was priced at N880 per litre in Kano, N780 in Abuja, and N740 in Lagos on Monday, it soared to N903 in the North on Tuesday due to the additional bridging cost incurred by marketers from Lagos.
