No Threats to the 2023 general elections – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has categorically stated that there are no threats to the 2023 General Elections in the country. The statement was made during the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in the United States of America.

During the summit, discussions were centered around enhancing support for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) training and capacity building programs, particularly the training of tactical units deployed in the North East and other conflict areas across the country. This includes the ongoing election security management training across the six geo-political zones in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

In a meeting with Mr. Todd D. Robinson, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, U.S. Department of States, the progress of the NPF under the leadership of the IGP was praised. The Assistant Secretary also commended the NPF’s achievements and discussed increasing support to the force.

The statement also highlighted the IGP’s commitment to improving policing services and leaving behind a modern Nigeria Police Force through continuous interaction with individuals and groups supporting the agenda. The IGP emphasized his administration’s focus on enhanced training and retraining of police officers and men, as well as the sustenance and improvement of cutting-edge technology for better crime prevention, deterrence, and apprehension of suspects with concrete, credible, and corroborated evidence.

The IGP is expected to return to the country on Sunday.
