5-Year-Old Allegedly Abused by Aunt Discharged from Lagos Hospital as Medically Fit

After being allegedly severely abused by his aunt and guardian, five-year-old Michael Ayodele has been discharged from General Hospital, Ijede. The hospital has confirmed and certified him as medically fit and sound to leave the facility.

Michael was brought to the hospital with a deep cut on his head on July 14, 2021, by the Lagos State Child Protection Rescue Team after being rescued from his aunt, Oluwaseyi Mary Odeyemi at Gberigbe in Ikorodu with the support of the LNSC, Ijede Office and the Nigeria Police Force, Area N, Ijede Division.

It was reported that Odeyemi had subjected him to ill-treatment for over six months, including denying him an education, food, love, and freedom to move around.

Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Olumuyiwa Balogun-Oluwa, confirmed the latest development at the facility, stating that Michael received free medical care during his stay and responded well to treatment.

Dr. Balogun-Oluwa mentioned that every necessary medical effort was made to ensure Michael’s good health before his discharge.

“Michael responded rapidly to treatment due to the love, attention, and adequate treatment he received, not only from our experienced medical staff but also from other members of staff and visitors, making him cheerful and feel at home here,” he said.
