2024 UTME: Group Issues One Week Ultimatum to JAMB to Release Withheld Results

A demand has been made by the Foundation for Civic Education, Human Rights and Development Advancement to the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board to release all withheld results within a week starting Wednesday.

Should JAMB not comply, the group threatens to initiate actions that could lead to the abolishment of the examination body.

Clifford Thomas Esq, the Executive Director of the organization, delivered the ultimatum in a statement released to journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, titled “JAMB Urged to Release 2024 Results in Full”.

In the release of the 2024 results, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that 78 results were withheld for alleged exam misconduct, 4,594 for procedural investigation, 2,896 for verification issues, and 57,056 for center-based scrutiny.

Thomas criticized JAMB for withholding results for investigation, claiming it reflects a lack of professionalism and competence in conducting entrance exams for Nigerian tertiary institutions.

He stated, “We demand immediate, unconditional release of all results as a demonstration of JAMB’s commitment. Candidates vying for admission in Nigerian institutions should not have their confidence shaken.”

“There is no legal basis in Nigeria to prevent under-18 candidates from taking JAMB exams. It is illegal to seize their results based on age. JAMB’s actions may jeopardize its existence.”

“A seven-day ultimatum starting from Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, is given for the release of the withheld results. Failure to meet this ultimatum will prompt advocacy for eliminating JAMB in favor of tertiary institutions conducting their entrance exams.”

“JAMB’s performance in managing entrance exams into Nigerian tertiary institutions has been called into question.”

“This demand is addressed to the presidency, Nigerian Senate, House of Representatives, Nigerian Governors Forum, States’ Assemblies, media, security agencies, and diplomatic missions. The injustice must end!”
