The NBA President Commends 2023 Election Petition Courts for Rendering Justice

The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has expressed its approval of the verdicts delivered by various courts regarding the petitions stemming from the 2023 general elections.

During a speech in Yola on Saturday, NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, lauded the judges for dispensing justice in their rulings.

“Where there is justice, recognition follows as the populace can resonate with the fairness of the verdict,” stated the NBA President.

Addressing the Emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the NBA in the Adamawa State capital, Maikyau urged governments at all levels to act in accordance with the constitution before making decisions, no matter how well-intentioned they may be.

He emphasized the role of NBA members as providers of guidance and protection to both the people and the government, underscoring that “Governments should not act based solely on personal sentiments but should ensure compatibility with existing laws.”

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, inaugurating the NBA NEC meeting, called on the Bar to assist in upholding public trust in the judiciary.

Represented by Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta, the Governor urged the Bar to firmly address any misconduct within its ranks while acknowledging and celebrating members who exhibit integrity, skill, courage, and patriotism.

“I implore you to contribute towards maintaining the public’s trust in the judiciary as the ultimate refuge for the common man. Let justice prevail and let it be visibly upheld,” added the Governor.

During her address, Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman, encouraged NBA meeting participants to make decisions that will elevate the significance of the bar.

She commended the judiciary for entrusting numerous women with overseeing election petitions nationwide.
