The 17-year-old girl was a victim of a horrifying incident where she was ambushed and gang-raped by three armed boys suspected to be street urchins in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Monday, June 1.
According to reports, the girl, who sells sachet water and soft drinks at the popular Oja’ba market in Ado-Ekiti, was accosted by three young men wielding broken bottles at about 7 pm on Monday. They took her to a secluded area and took turns to rape her for over 45 minutes.
After the traumatizing ordeal, she sought medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The incident was later reported to the Ekiti Police Command and Office of the Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, who took care of her medical bill.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, stating that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape. Efforts are underway to apprehend the third suspect.
